K-12 school districts have been our deepest specialty for more than 80 years — in school districts across the country, and schools across the globe, we manage facility design for new and aging schools, helping school systems right size their facility portfolio to meet the needs of their communities.
Higher Education
Our higher education portfolio spans across many campuses and independent colleges designign new facilities and guiding institutions with engineering solutions for facilities facing deferred maintenance and changing enrollment.
Civic and Other Public Sector
Our civic and government practice serves municipalities, county agencies, and public-facing facilities including city halls, court buildings, public-performance spaces, parks and military facilities.
Faith-based
We serve faith communities by supporting houses of worship and faith-based education campuses, where decisions are deeply personal and committee-driven.
A legacy of public service built over time
ATSR was founded in 1944 as Armstrong and Schlicting Architects by founders G. Clair Armstrong and Gordon A. Schlicting. The firm’s first office was located just off historic Loring Park in Minneapolis. The firm left an indelible mark acoss the Twin Cities with dozens of churches, schools, hospitals and more. As it evolved, new partners came along and the name was cemented as Armstrong Torseth Skold and Rydeen, now known by the moniker, ATSR.
In the decades since, we have partnered with school districts, government agencies, and public institutions on thousands of facility projects across the region, country and across the globe. Our construction documents are recognized for their detail and enforceability — change orders on our projects consistently run well below industry averages. ATSR is a firm committed to operating with integrity for the public good.
